    • Music therapy is the use of music to achieve non-music goals. It is a clinical, evidence-based service that only certified Music Therapists (MT-BCs) can practice.

    • Music therapy is not the same as sound frequency therapy, sound healing, or music education. It is similar to physical, occupational, and recreational therapy, in that music interventions are integrated in a scientifically-backed manner to address a physical, emotional, or social goal.

    • Contracted Music Therapy indicates a music therapist will travel to your organization (nursing homes, nonprofits, hospice houses, etc.) for designated time slots each week.

    • Common goals in this type of music therapy include (but are not limited to) decreasing anxiety, exercising short-term memory, increasing emotional expression, family bonding, legacy work, and increased quality of life.

  • A contracted music therapist will arrive at your organization at an agreed-upon time and frequency. The therapist will then visit individuals at your organization to address any areas of need they may have. Here are some things you can expect each visit:

    • Music interventions (activities) tailored to the individual’s specific needs and interests, like songwriting, active music making on instruments, discussing song lyrics, playing percussion, musical games, and even progressive muscle relaxation with live music.

    • Songs that they enjoy- favorite genres will be used intentionally to address individual goals while allowing plenty of space for fun.

    • A professional, evidence-based approach with a therapist who values organization feedback and interdisciplinary integration.

    • Music therapy sessions are typically conducted once a week at a designated time, usually for 2 to 3 hour increments.

    • Scheduling is ultimately determined between therapist and organization, depending on the level of needs.

    • Organizations may choose between designated weekly time slots per individual vs. a longer time slot to be split between individuals as needed that day.

    • In nursing homes, hospice houses, and memory care, a music therapist will use real-time assessment strategies to determine the length of visit per individual during their designated time slot. For example, if Individual A presents higher needs than Individual B that day, the therapist will split time slot to accommodate those needs.

    • We offer flexible pricing for music therapy services based on length of session and frequency of services.

    • Billing occurs on a monthly basis and will always be transparent with no hidden costs.

    • For effective music therapy outcomes, consistency is key.

    • If conflicts arise on your scheduled appointment day and time slot, please let your therapist know within 24 hours of scheduled appointment. We will do our best to reschedule with you. Please note rescheduling may depend on your therapist’s availability that week.

    • We kindly ask for 24-hour notice for cancelled appointments. Cancellations or requests for reschedule outside of the 24-hour notice will be charged at the appointment rate.

  • Absolutely not! A music therapist will arrive at your organization with everything needed for a meaningful music therapy experience.

    • IMPORTANT NOTE: We will never force an individual to sing or play an instrument if they do not want to; in other words, engaging in music during sessions can be passive or active. Your therapist will always encourage participation, but individuals do not have to “be good at music” to benefit from music therapy.
